AMD quad core for 2007!

AMD has indicated to motherboard makers that it will advance the launch of its quad-core K8L desktop platform to the third quarter of 2007, according to sources at the motherboard makers. Previously, AMD had reportedly scheduled the launch of the K8L platform for 2008.

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has postponed launch of its Socket AM3 processors to the middle of 2008, from an originally scheduled third-quarter 2007, according to motherboard makers. AMD's first quad-core K8L desktop processor, the Altair, originally set to utilize the Socket AM3 connector, will be resident in Socket AM2+, indicated the makers.

Donc en gros AMD chie des tacs et veut pas perdre le marché si difficilement acquis...donc ils se grouille a sortir le quadcore plus vite que prévu..ce qui en résulte c'est que les premiers quadcore ne fonctionneront pas avec la DDR3 ...

Techniquement ca semble mieux que le Intel quand core....en pratique ca devrait etre mieux aussi....mais pardonne moi Jesus ca va couter combien cte machine là!!

Un board malade avec 2 cpu 4 barettes de ram pi deux cartes video....ca va etre dur d'etre compétitif coté prix...vite faite un vrai quad core!

Contra AMD Quad FX:

* Very high power requirements due to two processors
* High cooling requirements (air conditioning?)
* Power draw of 500+ W requires at least a 750 W power supply
* Very high platform costs (four memory modules and a $400+ motherboard)
* Platform benefits not noticeable with most of today's applications
* Virtually no overclocking margins for the FX-74 top model
* Only a single motherboard available (Asus); likely not available in retail, but via system integrators


The bottom line is obvious: Quad FX is hot, but its time has not yet come.
