Jpense que la guerre va vraiment commencer! avec un hd-dvd sur le xbox 360 et cette annonce...ca promet! (mais pardonne moi Jesus que c chiant 2 standart)
Las Vegas (NV) - The Blu-ray and HD DVD camps used the day before the official opening of this year's CES to exchange gentle slaps in an effort to attract the interest and support from journalists. While Blu-ray proponents put an armada of players on display, Toshiba scored at the end of the day: The first HD DVD player will not only be released in time, but may also cost only a fraction of some Blu-ray players.

Toshiba's surprise announcement came as a brief note during Microsoft's traditional pre-show keynote. According to the firm's corporate vice president Joe Bulfiare, the first HD DVD player for the family room will ship in March of this year for a suggested retail price of $499. This significantly undercuts the price of Pioneer's Blu-ray player, which was announced earlier in the day with a price target of about $1800.

So far, no other manufacturers of Blu-ray players have announced specific pricing for their products. Philips' Rudy Provoost, CEO of the firm's consumer electronics division, mentioned during a pre-show press conference that the price tag will remain a secret for now. However, the device will be priced "competitively in the marketplace," he said. He did not say whether this statement referred to all HD media, or just Blu-ray.

As expected, both camps claim to offer the best high-definition experience for the user, and the superior feature set. While HD DVD supporters still have several opportunities to garner attention, some Blu-ray firms have already laid out their vision for how they plan to conquer the market. Philips, for example, is busy gathering partnerships with content providers such as Disney's Buena Vista division, to blend movies with premium content such as video games on Blu-ray discs. Meanwhile, Sony announced yesterday that production of movies on Blu-ray is shifting into high gear. Even with no players commercially available at this time, the company showed 20 recent Hollywood movies that will be produced immediately for Blu-ray media.
