The 2.3-litre Mazda four-cylinder engine found in a number of Mazda, Ford and Volvo cars and light trucks will be replaced next year by a new one the company says will offer 15 -20 per cent more performance from 20 per cent less fuel. It is utilizing a full array of technical tricks to meet these goals including direct injection, combustion control, variable valve timing and new exhaust catalyst technology

Sounds to me like they look what honda did on their civic

Anyway it's only good news...I wish I could afford a new Mazda...and if the 4 cylinder is more powerfull it will be a nice choice on the mazda 6 too.
