Another reason to hate VW

Message par pwel »

Apparently the GTI is too important to Volkswagen of America and they are not willing to cannibalize sales of the hatchback by bringing the Scirocco hatchback here. The original Scirocco was very popular in the U.S.

According to Adrian Hallmark, executive vice president of Volkswagen of America, "It is economically suicidal for us to risk the sales volume and the potential of the GTI."

The Scirocco will have the same engine and chassis as the GTI when it is released.

Since the market for hatchbacks is very small in the United States, having multiple hatchbacks and coupes in their U.S. lineup would not be beneficial.

Sucks that they tempted us with the Iroc Concept and now they are deciding to neglect the U.S. market. It seems like we never get any of the cool cars. Arg!

At least the Scirocco is dawm pretty....and it reminds the old one and also the corrado...shame on them with their fuckin' GTI...MAZDASPEED 3 seems to be way better then a GTI...and way way more reliable ;)

I hate VW and I always will ;)

Volkswagen still remains uncertain about the fate of the new Scirocco in the U.S. First VW's U.S. operations stated that they did not want the car to come here because it would compete with the GTI. Shortly after, VW reported that no decision had been made about the fate of the car. Now there are spy photos of the car testing in California, which adds even more mystery to the situation.

The front and rear of the car are heavily camouflaged, but it is easy to see that the production version will retain many of the styling cues from the IROC Concept that was revealed last fall (pictured above). For example the honeycomb grille is almost identical to the concept.

So the question still remains...Will this car actually make it to the U.S.?

In other news, VW has announced that the automaker is going to update their logo starting with the next generation Golf. The logo will remain in the same spot, but it will grow in size and protrude out a little further.
