Hyundai Genesis

Message par pwel »

Recently Hyundai released photos of their upcoming rwd sedan, the Genesis concept car. This car is the automaker's first attempt at trying to sell a "premium" vehicle. The car is set to be unveiled at the New York Auto show this month and will feature a 4.6L V8 engine mated to a 6-speed auto. The car will have over 300 horsepower, 130mph top speed and a push-button start system.

With the upcoming introduction of the Genesis, Hyundai execs are now trying to decide if they need an individual upmarket brand to sell more expensive vehicles to buyers of German and Japanese luxury cars. No decision has been made, so the Genesis will be sold in Hyundai dealerships, for now.

It is only a matter of time before Hyundai releases a separate luxury brand. The company has been trying to enter every segment possible with the exception of the full-size truck market. If they can get it right from the start it could be successful. At least it should help their overall image and quality. Think of this announcement as the same announcement from Honda back in the mid-80s. I'm sure many hardcore German fans protested, but look at Lexus/Infiniti and Acura now. They have become great competitors to the European brands and in some cases are able to out perform the competition.

Well this was already rumored last month when the first photos of the unmasked RWD Genesis coupe surfaced, but now Hyundai has confirmed that the Genesis will be offered with a turbocharged 4-cylinder .

A naturally aspirated V6 is going to also be offered in addition to the turbocharged 4-cylinder. It looks like the V8 from the Genesis sedan is not going to be offered at least initially in the coupe. The turbocharged engine is being developed under the Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance, which is a joint venture between Hyundai, Mitsubishi and Chrysler. Hyundai’s U.S. product development chief, John Krafcik, told the Automotive News that the turbos that are being developed will eventually be offered in other Hyundai vehicles.

Krafcik also stated that a separate FWD coupe is in the works that will replace the current Tiburon, although no timeline was given.

Who knew that they were actually working on a fourth version of the Fast and Furious movie series, but it looks like they are and the all-new 2009 Hyundai Genesis Coupe will have a starring role.

When Fast and Furious 4 is released sometime in 2009 it will star alongside the Nissan GT-R. Vin Diesel and Paul Walker are also reportedly on board for the new movie. It is being reported that Hyundai has already supplied Universal with a red turbocharged Genesis Coupe SE for the movie.
